Becici, Budva

Becici beach, almost 2 km long, is among the most beautiful beaches in Montenegro and the Adriatic. In 1935, she received the Grand Prix in Paris for the most beautiful beach in Europe. Only 500 meters from Bečići is the island of Sveti Nikola or as the locals call it Školj. The island is overgrown with lush Mediterranean vegetation, mostly evergreen trees. It represents a real bird kingdom, and it is rich in smaller game. A special attraction are the mouflons that inhabit the most forested part of the island. On the island is the church of St. Nikola, after which the island was named, and which was first mentioned in the 16th century. The church is surrounded by a large number of old graves, which legend says were buried there by participants in the crusade, which was hit by an epidemic while they were camping in Budva.

On the island you can find several paradise beaches that can be reached exclusively by boat. Next to Bečić beach, on a hill among pines and cypresses, is the Church of St. Thomas. According to some sources, it dates from the 14th century and was dedicated to the apostle St. Tommy. The church was dilapidated and in its place a new church was built in 1910, dedicated to Stefan Štiljanović, the last Pashtrov prince, Serbian despot and saint, born in the immediate vicinity of this church. Every year, the faithful gather here on October 17, on the day of St. Stefan Stiljanovic, and on October 19, on the day of St. Thomas, Tomindan.
